Classic cars set off on 150km rally
Some 35 classic cars will set off on a 150km rally between Lefkosa, Gazi Magusa and Girne this afternoon.
Competitors aim to complete the route, containing five or six off-road special stages, by 5pm tomorrow.
Preparations for the 2006 Classic Cars Championship Rally were to get under way last night with vehicle inspections and technical controls at the Alpet-Autosat petrol station in Ortakoy, Lefkosa, where crews also received a briefing on the competition.
The rally begins at 2pm this afternoon at the Pronto Cafe in Lefkosa, with competitors making their way to the Zet Karting track at Alaykoy for slalom races against the clock, finishing at 5pm. Tomorrow competitors will again be at the Alpet-Autosat petrol station for a 9am start, when they will drive to Gazi Magusa and Girne for more competition events before returning to the start venue.
An award presentation gala ball is planned for December by rally organisers The Cyprus Turkish Classic Automobile Association.
