18 new hotels

Eighteen hotels are to be built along the beachfront at Kumkoy, west of Guzelyurt, Economy and Tourism Minister Dervis Kemal Deniz announced on a visit to the region. The visit was part of a series showcasing TRNC tourism investment areas which started last week in Bafra. Mr Deniz said the hotels would each be allocated 80 donums of land, and would have a capacity of between 400 and 800 beds. He said road-building in the area was scheduled to begin next month, and construction of the first hotel this year, with a target of opening in 2010. Mr Deniz said the new hotels area would be a boost to the Guzelyurt area's economy, in addition to citrus production and the universities in the area. “With its beautiful, long sandy stretch of beach, Kumkoy has the potential to become an attractive tourism centre,” he said.
